I agree that Rosa Parks was a hero for what she did. The government passed and enforced irrational, unfair laws forbidding black and white people to interact--not only in publicly funded transportation, but in the private sector as well. Parks stood up to such laws, and in the process, changed history. For this, she deserves much respect. The civil rights movement as we know it today does not resemble Parks' heroic action of yesteryear. Today's civil rights movement isn't trying to overturn irrational, government-inspired restrictions on freedom of association. Today's civil rights movement encourages many blacks to think like helpless, angry victims, who hold the government responsible for natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, demand quota laws and engage in relentless whining rather than self-reliance and self-respect. Some in today's civil rights movement even advocate slave reparations, which would consist of all white people in 2005 handing over portions of their income and savings to black people. If this took place, it would be the most racist thing to occur on American soil since slavery itself. Honor Rosa Parks for the best within her, demonstrated on that heroic day. Try not to think of what the civil rights movement has become since that day.
