To talk negatively about privatizing Social Security is like saying, "We should not have to face reality, and we are not going to do so." The only alternative to the Social Security program is the only one that ever existed: people being responsible for planning their retirements on their own time and with their own money. The notion that the government could provide for everyone past a certain age never was reality. Social Security was America's experiment with small-scale communism. In the coming decade or so, we're about to see the whole illusion come crashing down, as forcefully and inevitably as did the Berlin Wall.
