So the U.S. Government wants to split up Microsoft. By what right? Bill Gates and his stockholders own Microsoft. Not Bill Clinton, Janet Reno, or any other politician. If the government plans to act as if it owns Microsoft, then it should state openly that it now owns the company. None of us should pretend otherwise. The government's action is nothing more than the nationalization of Microsoft. And since Microsoft is such a core part of the technological industry, this means the government is really nationalizing the high-tech field as a whole. Most Americans believe they are not socialists. But government ownership of private property, even when called otherwise, is still socialism. In the rest of the world, socialism is on the decline. In the United States, it seems to be just taking off.
