So the White House wants to sue gun manufacturers for murder. What next? Sue McDonalds for heart disease? Sue car makers for drunk driving? Probably so -- if this suit succeeds. The vast majority of people who buy guns do so to protect and defend themselves. Nothing makes a criminal feel safer than knowing that law-abiding, peaceful citizens are disarmed. Criminals, after all, will always get their hands on guns. Innocent individuals depend upon the right of gun ownership to protect themselves since the police are not always enough. Government lawyers claim that this lawsuit is based upon traditional liability theory. Nonsense. According to rational liability theory, manufacturers are sued when their product fails to do what it is supposed to do. Guns are supposed to kill, and everybody knows this. The true liability for murder lies not only with criminals, but with the U.S. government. How? For perpetuating those urban slums of decay, also known as housing projects, whose violent conditions gave rise to this suit in the first place. This is all so typical of the welfare state. It creates more problems rather than solving any; then it turns around and creates more restrictions, on the rest of us, for their own mistakes. Now that's a basis for a lawsuit, isn't it?
