Some of us are not surprised by the violent tragedy at yet another public school. Public schools increasingly teach children how to feel rather than how to think. They tell children that there is really no such thing as good or bad or right or wrong and that it is bad to make moral judgments. Should we be surprised that some children take what they are taught seriously? If there is no right or wrong, why not shoot your parents, teachers, and classmates when they anger you? If feelings are more important than reason and truth, nobody can (or should) exercise self-restraint Private schools do not have these problems. They can teach a code of ethics without fear of losing government financing. Private schools answer to parents who pay the bill rather than to third parties like teachers' unions and bureaucrats. It is time to totally privatize education and place control over curriculums in the hands of parents (the consumers).
