George Bush is turning the United States into a New World Welfare State. The United Nations now pours money and resources (mostly American) into every world problem imaginable, as our own economy continues to deteriorate. This trend began with the Persian Gulf War. President Bush said he wanted to defend the people of Kuwait, not the selfish interests of the oil companies. Baloney. We were defending our oil interests in the Persian Gulf because our very civilization depends upon them. Furthermore, the oil reserves in the Middle East were discovered and made possible by Western industrialists, not the Arab tyrants who run those countries. We are morally justified in protecting those oil fields whenever necessary. The situation in former Yugoslavia is a different story. There is no indication that the sovereignty of the United States -- as a free country -- is threatened by their civil war. In reality, the conflict in the Baltic states is simply an effort to replace one form of violent tribalism (Communism) with another form (nationalism). Let them destroy each other, if they have to, until they learn that a country based upon individual rights and limited government is the only rational way to live. As for our foreign policy, Bush has led us into a New World Order which amounts to creating a massive welfare state for virtually every country in the world. It is time to realize that foreign aid is a travesty and should be eliminated on the principle of limited government: The sole purpose of a government is to protect its citizens from physical force at home and abroad. This was the republican form of government which the American founders created in the U.S. Constitution. It is not the function of government to tax, tax and tax its citizens into submission and self- sacrifice for the alleged well-being of barbarians halfway across the world. The Bush administration is surrendering our sovereignty to the United Nations, and creating a military welfare state on the backs of American taxpayers. This is a disastrous trend which appears to be the policy of the post-Cold War period. And it looks as if Bush's probable successor in January, Bill Clinton, plans to carry this policy even further. What a monstrous choice -- between a military welfare state run by altruistic bureaucrats (the Republicans), and a military welfare state run by pitiful amateurs (the Democrats). To those of you who insist that we "do something" about the Serbs and the Croats, my message is this: If you want to help them, I won't stop you. But do not force the rest of us to pay for a hopeless cause with our money -- and possibly our lives as well.
