Under capitalism, I work for myself and you work for yourself. Under socialism, I work for myself -- and for you. Under socialism, you work for yourself -- and for me. Wait a minute. If each of us works either way, then why do we need socialism? Can't you and I each do a better job if we simply concentrate on ourselves? But there's a third party -- someone else who doesn't want to work. Under capitalism, you and I can each ignore him. But under socialism, we have no choice: We must work for him as well as for ourselves, regardless of what we want. He doesn't have to work because he knows we must work for him. That's the difference between socialism and freedom.
