A person can always change. Sometimes, it seems he cannot change, but he still can. "He can't help himself." Sometimes this is true, in a sense. It's true in the sense that his irrational, self-defeating or mistaken thinking will not allow him to change. So long as he thinks in an erroneous, self-defeating, or stupid way, he won't feel better or be better. This does not eradicate free will. It simply illustrates the power of thinking. Thinking can be destructive, when it's wrong and against your interests. But when your thinking is rational and life-promoting, it can change everything. That's why there always is hope. Instead of asking, "What's wrong with me?" you ought to be asking, "What's wrong in my thinking?"
