Confidence in YOUR mind means confidence in "the mind." In other words: If you appreciate that reason is the human method of knowing, surviving and thriving, then you are confident that the exercise of your own reason will get you somewhere. You're likewise confident in the expertise of other people who use reason to get somewhere, confident that their knowledge and discovery can help you. This applies in daily life as much as science or anywhere else. "Reason" is an everyday term, not just a term reserved for professors, scientists and elites. Some people prefer the term "common sense." Common sense is fine and necessary, as long as you understand it's in no way at war with reason. Confidence comes from an appreciation of what the human mind can do, including your own mind. That's the essence of self-esteem.
