Are You Crazy?

Daily Dose of Reason - Psychology & Self-Improvement

I'm rather startled by the number of perfectly reasonable people who think they might be "crazy" and, because I'm a therapist by profession, will see that they are "crazy." Crazy refers to psychosis, meaning a complete break with a recognition that there's such a thing as objective reality. The concept “crazy” does not apply to you if you are able and willing to be objective about yourself and reality. The concept “crazy” does not apply to many people, so you probably need not worry. The proper question is generally not, “Am I crazy?” but rather: “Are my emotions consistent with reason and logic, and am I happy?” When I work with clients in therapy and life coaching, I don’t think: "Is he/she crazy?" Instead I try to assess what errors exist in one's thinking and actions, as well as what one is doing right.
