Freedom of speech is the most important thing. It's everything. Without free expression of ideas, there's no competition among ideas. The irrational wins over the rational only where there is no free speech. So long as people can counter with better ideas -- whether it's medical care, technology, morality, values, political systems -- there's hope for improvement. If free speech goes, then everything goes. Still, rationality can win in the end, but only if and when free speech is restored. Fighting for freedom of speech is fighting for freedom of the mind. The mind is how man survives and flourishes. Watch out for free speech, as your life depends on it.
