If you want loyalty from people, make sure to choose people who value the same things you do.

People tend to be loyal to what matters to them. If you value the truth, and someone else values the truth, then you'll receive loyalty in the form of honesty. If you value truth and another does not, then you'll get a different result. And so on, with a whole range of values. If someone isn't loyal to you, then they have told you they don't value the same things. It may be hard to accept, but it is what it is, and you're better off now that you know.
